We are delighted to announce the release of the latest edition of Outstanding Voices, bringing together inspiring stories, practical insights, sector updates and examples of outstanding practice from across adult social care.
This issue reflects what continues to make our sector so special: a commitment to learning, collaboration and ensuring the voices of people with lived experience remain at the heart of everything we do. From reflections on one of the sector’s biggest events to leadership updates, workforce development, research opportunities and examples of exceptional care, there is something for everyone involved in adult social care.
Highlights from this edition
Readers can look back on another successful Care Show Birmingham 2026, where the Outstanding Society Learning Lounge and Social Care Nurses Lounge welcomed hundreds of delegates, speakers and sector leaders for two days of discussion, learning and inspiration. A recurring theme throughout the event was the power of lived experience and the importance of listening to people receiving care and support when shaping the future of social care.
The magazine also celebrates an important milestone for the OUT Standing Diversity Form (OSDF), which has secured places to march at Birmingham Pride 2027. The achievement represents a significant step forward in championing inclusion, visibility and diversity across adult social care. Members interested in participating are encouraged to register their interest early due to anticipated high demand.
For nursing professionals, there is news from the Social Care Nursing Advisory Council (SCNACs) network, including the appointment of new regional Co-Chairs and opportunities for nurses and aspiring leaders to become involved in shaping the future of social care nursing.
Learning, leadership and workforce development
This edition includes expert guidance on the new Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate qualification, hospital discharge, winter resilience planning and the implementation of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism. These articles provide practical advice to help providers strengthen workforce development and improve outcomes for the people they support.
Readers can also explore updates on infection prevention and control guidance, changes ntroduced through the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, vaccination programmes for winter preparedness and a range of upcoming webinars and events designed to support care providers and sector leaders.
Celebrating excellence
Our popular Outstanding Spotlight feature recognises services that have recently achieved an Outstanding CQC rating, including a special feature on BCOP’s Robert Harvey House, which was praised for its personalised care, inspirational leadership and commitment to continuous improvement.
The issue also includes a heartfelt tribute to James Rycroft, acknowledging his enormous contribution to The Outstanding Society and the wider social care sector since helping to establish the organisation.
