Reducing the Environmental Impact of Medicines in Social Care Settings

As part of the regional priorities in the East of England, the Social Care Nursing Advisory Council (SCNAC) has created a poster highlighting how small changes in the way organisations manage medication can make a big difference to our environment.

Alongside the poster, the team has also developed a resource guide offering further information and practical support to put these changes into action. – You can download these below.

We don’t always realise how much of a difference small changes in medicine use can make. By looking at how we order, store, and dispose of medication, we’re not only reducing waste, we’re also improving care and safety for those who need us most.""Sustainability in care isn’t just about being environmentally aware. It’s about thinking long term, protecting the people we support and the resources we rely on. This poster was our way of helping care homes take practical steps that really matter.

The Co-Chairs of the East of England SCNAC – Caron Sanders-Crook & Victoria Hulstrom worked with the following to produce this work.

Mike Slator – Pharmacist & Project Support Specialist at the Outstanding Society

Helen Hill  – Head of Care & Compliance at Stow Healthcare and

Shelley O’Farrell – Medication Optimisation Lead at Stow Healthcare
