Caring Homes has published a news event on their website celebrating the appointment of Deputy Manager Leanne to South West Regional Social Care Nursing Advisory Council (SCNAC).
Charlotte Fry, Chair, South West SCNAC said: “As Chair of SW SCNAC, I am delighted that Leanne will be joining us, she is well suited to this role having expertise in working in Social Care and the commitment to bringing her voice to the table.”
SW SCNAC are starting to work on national and regional priorities including education and training and workforce planning and development. We have also started to build a project repository showcasing projects undertaken by or with Adult Social Care Providers that can be shared regionally and nationally.
Social Care Nursing Advisory Councils (SNACS) exist across seven regions which incorporate every ICB (Integrated Care Board) in England and are chaired by nursing colleagues from across the sector. Each Chair forms a board of representatives from the Region and this team works with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide a better and wider understanding of nursing across the health and adult social care sectors.
Leanne joined the Caring Homes team as Deputy Manager of Laverstock in 2022. She has worked in social care since 2015 but started her nursing career with the NHS, primarily working in Trauma and Orthopaedics. An army posting for her husband resulted in a move to Wiltshire and with a young family, Leanne found that social care offered the shift flexibility she needed. “Because my husband was working during the day, I needed to work night shifts but there weren’t any hospitals close enough for me to get home in time to allow him to leave for work on time. Until then, I had never considered a career within social care but it was the best career move I ever made! I loved working in nursing homes from day one and found It both challenging and extremely rewarding”.
SCNACS Highlight the Significance of Social Care Nursing
The aim of all SCNACs is to improve the quality of care and support provided to individuals in social care settings across each region. Leanne’s role as member of the South West SCNAC highlights her dedication and expertise in the field of social care nursing, and also her commitment to raising the sector’s profile. She explained, “It is really important to highlight the significance of social care nursing and give it the recognition it needs. The nurses within social care have so much responsibility and need to have very good clinical judgement and I don’t think they get the recognition they deserve. The developments and changes being made in social care nursing are very exciting and really give us a voice to be heard. This is especially true for the development of the SCNAC”.
The Impact of Leanne’s New Role
In her capacity as a SCNAC member, Leanne will collaborate with other industry leaders to address key challenges and promote innovative solutions in social care nursing. She continued, “I think it will have a really big impact for our residents and our teams, ensuring that we have our seat at the table and are involved in the exciting changes to come in social care nursing. On a personal level, I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity and am very excited to get started”.
