With recruitment continuing to be a major challenge for providers, there has been increased interest in the practicalities of overseas recruitment.
When the Government announcing in December 2021 that they were planning to expand the UK Health and Care Visa to include care workers for new 12-month visas, the change was welcomed by many.
Skills for Care has for many years produced guidance and advice to support the recruitment of adult social care workers (including our comprehensive website section here). However, our focus on recruitment has not previously included overseas recruitment.
Given the increased interest, we decided to bring together legal experts in international recruitment and employers who were already successfully recruiting staff from other countries. The aim of the meeting was to share practical advice and tried and tested methods.
The meeting on 12 January 2022 was recorded and is now available to stream from the Skills for Care website.
It provides clarity on a range of overseas recruitment issues including:
- Recruiting from overseas – new rules and how to navigate the immigration system
- Sponsorship and licenses, including costs
- Visa application processes
- Overseas vaccinations
- Examples from health and care providers
